Our Scope.

The scope included the construction of capping beams, installation of nine rows of ground anchors with the top row extending 32 metres, application of shotcrete, as well as both bulk and detailed excavation totalling approximately 320,000m³. As part of the works, a temporary loading platform was also constructed and incorporated into the permanent structure to support ongoing construction activities.

Challenges & Our Approach.

The Rhodes Central project presented several challenges due to its significant size and scale, with the excavation of over 320,000m³ requiring careful staging and coordination.

The anchoring works demanded a detailed retention anchor design to suit the variable ground conditions, ensuring stability and safety throughout the excavation process.

Additional complexity arose with the need for bracing to support the suspended loading platform, which required a highly engineered temporary works design and arrangement. The site’s location within a congested area created logistical challenges for truck access and material movements, necessitating meticulous planning to minimise disruption. Furthermore, proximity to the Parramatta River and surrounding community required stringent environmental and community management measures to protect local waterways and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
