Parramatta Station Box .

Parramatta

The Project.

Moits was engaged by Gamuda under a Construct Only contract to deliver the bulk excavation for the new Parramatta Station Box, a key component of the Sydney Metro project. The scope involved the excavation and removal of over 150,000m³ of material, including TBM nozzle material, as well as surface demolition and associated earthworks. This critical package of works formed an essential step in preparing the site for construction of the underground station in the heart of Parramatta’s CBD.

Our Scope.

Our works encompassed bulk excavation of the station box, detailed excavation to facilitate structural bracing, and load-out of material from within a live tunnelling environment. We also provided support for structural bracing installation and managed excavation around complex geometrical level changes. Surface demolition was undertaken in conjunction with earthworks activities, while careful planning and execution ensured compliance with archaeological and heritage requirements, particularly around the iconic Roxy Theatre adjacent to the site.

Challenges & Our Approach.

The project posed significant challenges, including restricted machine movements within the braced excavation box, managing material haulage with level drops, and maintaining operations alongside a live TBM.

Working within the densely populated Parramatta CBD demanded strict environmental and community impact management, with noise, dust, and vibration controls critical to minimising disruption.

Through detailed staging, innovative load-out methods, and close coordination with the client and stakeholders, Moits ensured works were executed safely, efficiently, and with minimal impact on the surrounding community and heritage assets.
