DESCRIPTION: The scope for this project included bulk excavation, detail excavation and shotcreting. The project started with the removal of existing ENM stockpiles. We identified a few contaminated material hotspots, which were excavated prior to the start of bulk excavation whilst making certain that the contaminated materials didn’t mix with VENM.
One of the biggest challenges was preparing the platform for the 100 tonne piling rig for the various hotspots. We achieved this by removing the top layer of dirt and laying a compacted layer of road base, which was shifted to different locations according to the rig movement.
The weather was also against us and the deadline was fixed. We managed to release extra excavators and trucks, making up for the delays caused by the inclement weather (much to the client’s satisfaction).
